Today, MJ and I went to see the Eagles beat the Dolphins, 17 - 7. It was dog's nose weather*, but we had a great time anyway. MJ's highligt of the day was meeting Swoop. Mine was Chickie and Pete's Crab Fries.

OCMD Fall Getaway
A quick weekend trip to Ocean City, Maryland was in order for MJ's birthday. The weather was rainy for the first half, then cool and sunny for the second half.
We hit our favorites: The Fractured Prune, Waterman's, The Green Turtle...
All in all, a good weekend!

Punkins and Thanksgiving
It's the fall, it's time for Punkins! So, after many years of retirement, I've been to two punk rock shows in less than a month. Holy Jeebus!
On my birthday, I got to see my friend Josh's band, Split Fifty at Croc Rock in Allentown. What can I not say about this band? The new album is so polished and melodic I can't stop listening to it. These guys are absolutely amazing live, they have great energy and their songs are fun. Check out "Swing from her Fingernails" available in stores and on iTunes.
Then, I almost can't believe it, but after years of being a fan, I finally saw a full set of Bad Religion. I actually saw them for the first time earlier this year on the Warped Tour in Camden, NJ. Seeing guys like Jay Bently and Greg Graffin is just amazing. But seeing the legends Greg Hetson and Brian Baker is just a dream come true. We were driving to the show, and I saw Greg Hetson talking a walk by himself on Hamilton Blvd, must have been checking out our lovely downtown! Seeing him play takes me back and has me wishing I had seen him playing in the CJs all those years ago. Then comes Baker... for me, who got so much from his early bands Minor Threat and Dag Nasty, he's the reason I wish I could play guitar. No sportscars, no busty blonde younger women... Yes, my midlife crisis will probably revolve around finally learning to play and then trying (probably unsuccessfully... who wants to play alongside a late thirtysomething guitar player???) to start his first band. I hope my wife will one day give thanks Brian Baker for this.

Phollow-up and Philadelphia!
Well, we finally had our Pho!
Last Sunday, we spent the afternoon with our sister-in-law Jill in the Philly area. After perusing the mercantile of Chestnut Hill, we headed to the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal. What a peaceful sanctuary! I could have spent hours in there. The sense of comfort and compassion that washed over me was a truly beautiful experience. To learn about the shrine, please visit: www.cammonline.org
After our shrine visit, we finally arrived at Pho75. A quick note: I've found that Pho 75 is a franchise based out of Washington, D.C. That being said, the Pho was wonderful. I chose a large bowl of Pho with well done flank steak. If you are expecting filet mignon, I would not order this. However, if you are looking for a great add-on to the beef broth, I found it quite delicious with the rice noodles.
One caveat, we were still hungry! So, we went to Chubby's for my favorite Philly cheesesteak! Here's how I order mine: extra cheese, sauce, and pepperoni. One word: heaven! Not much else to say here. Check out Chubby's!

Prince of Persia!
I had the chance to stop for lunch at the Persian Grill on Germantown Pike yesterday. This is my second visit, first for lunch. I was a little apprehensive on my first visit, I'm not known for trying new and exotic anything! Let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised. The menu features simple fare consisting of grilled meats, such as veal, lamb, and chicken, served with delicately seasoned basmati rice. Persian food is infused with the delectable spices of saffron, sumac, and turmeric. Giving the flavor a citrus like undertone.
On this visit, the food and service was impeccable. I ordered the grilled chicken platter, which consisted of a skewer of chicken with onions and green peppers, a generous portion of the basmati rice, and a grilled tomato. Before the platter was served, my server brought out some warm pitas and butter to hold me over. These were good, but I think they could have been fresher. When my platter arrived, it looked and smelled delicious. As simple as the order was, the presentation was very colorful, with the red of the tomato, the green peppers, and the rice flecked with yellows and oranges. Going past the visuals, the taste did not disappoint. The chicken was slightly charred, lending that excellent flavor, yet it was still moist and tender. Now I'm not much of a vegetable person, but I've been recently willing to try. I sampled the grilled onion, and they were quite good. I actually ate them all. The peppers were a bit mushy, and the tomato could have been grilled longer, in fact, I may have eaten more of the tomato had that been the case.
The service was excellent and attentive, the gentleman attending to my table was very amiable. I felt that I was a top priority, without him being overbearing.
All in all, my platter and beverage cost me $11.55, tax included. Not something I'd like to spend everyday for lunch, but it was a healthy and refreshing alternative to a fast food stop.

Pho, Pho, Pho, Phoolin!
Remember the Def Leppard song? I do! Every time I think of Viet Namese food Pho, that's what comes to mind. My sister-in-law Jill is always telling us about these great Pho places in Philly, I've been dying to try them.
I found that we have a Pho place here in the Lehigh Valley, Pho Vung Tau Vietnamese Cuisine that MJ and I have to try soon.

Scuse me, while I kiss this guy!
Ever think you knew what the lyrics to a song are? Only to find out you were horribly and humorously wrong? Then, let me tell you a story about John Mayer's "3x5"
We were driving in the car, listening to this song. At the end, my wife says "You like barfights." And I was stunned, "Where did that come from?" I asked. She responded, "You know, this song." Immediately, it clicked with me and I started laughing. I then went on to realize that she's been listening to this song for years. We had quite a laugh.

May 25, 1977 - Star Wars
A day that changed many lives, including mine, forever...
BBC Star Wars Little-known Facts
If released today, it would never have had the impact it did. The socio-economic concerns of this time period were perfect for it's release. Recovering from Viet-Nam, in the heart of the Cold War, this generation needed what Episode IV promised: A New Hope.

Found an interesting beginning cycling article while reviewing the Daily RSS inundation. There's not a lot of training information, but it covers the beginners basics for getting involved with cycling.

Blog Uno
My first thoughts on blogging were countered by my wife, who said "What do you need to blog about?" I paused, and thought. I came to the conclusion that I really don't know. What I do know is that I'm going to share my ideas about the things I am interested in.
